| Why it's the best day of the year for these women inmates |

This was no ordinary weekend for inmates at Oregon's women's prison. Instead, it was the annual Through a Child's Eyes event, which affords some inmate mothers a chance to hug, laugh and play with their children inside the walls of Wilsonville's Coffee Creek Correctional Facility. There's a barbecue, games, crafts, face painting and more. A majority of inmates at Coffee Creek are mothers, and above all else, the event is a time for them to just be parents. The event is put on by the Rotary Club of Wilsonville, and marked its 14th anniversary this year. The Rotary offers more than 100 volunteers for the two days of fun. Rotary member John Ludlow, who co-founded the event, said his favorite part is seeing the mothers run to embrace their kids. Read More. |
