ASHEVILLE – A downtown resident has been charged with a felony count of assault inflicting serious injury on a detention officer in connection with a July 4 incident in the Buncombe County jail. Charged Sunday was Saffo Davis III, 54, of Ann Street. The incident occurred in the housing unit of the jail, where Davis was being held on other charges, the Buncombe County Sheriff's Office says.
