A 54-year-old man who had been serving a life sentence for a murder in Los Angeles County was fatally stabbed during a fight involving nearly two-dozen inmates at Calipatria State Prison in Imperial County, authorities said Monday. The man, whose name was withheld pending notification of his next of kin, was repeatedly stabbed about 10 a.m. Sunday, said Lt. Everado Silvo of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Twenty-two inmates began fighting in two separate areas of the prison, Silvo said. “Correctional officers responded and nearly all of the inmates complied with their verbal orders to get down,” Silvo said.
