| Local agencies take extra precautions during inmate transports |

When inmates are escorted from the Colbert County Jail to just walk across the street for a court appearance in the courthouse, they are shackled, feet and hands, to make sure there are no problems. “We put belly chains on them with their cuffs attached to the chains, and they have shackles on their feet,” said Colbert County Sheriff Frank Williamson. “And we will have two deputies, if possible, walking them over. We take every precaution to make sure there is no problem.” Lauderdale County Chief Deputy Richard Richey said those extra precautions are taken to make sure nothing happens similar to what occurred last week inside a Michigan courthouse. Two armed court bailiffs were shot to death by a prisoner who managed to grab a law enforcement officer’s gun. The prisoner later was killed. Read More. |
