Corrections Corp. of America is again growing in the "residential re-entry" sector — "halfway houses" in the common parlance — after being awarded a contract to house as many as 120 residents at a facility in San Diego.

The contract from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation is part of CDCR's Male Community Reentry Program designed to provide rehabilitative services for substance use disorders, mental health care, medical care, employment, education, housing, family reunification and social support with the aim to help participants re-enter the community and reduce recidivism.

The new contract takes effect Aug. 1 and will initially run through June 30, 2018, with three one-year renewal options. It is expected to generate about $4 million of revenue per year.
