| Police investigate death of cop killer at Fishkill Correctional |

BEACON – State police and the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision are investigating the death of a convicted murderer who took the life of a Long Island police officer over 40 years ago. The Nassau County Medical Examiner’s Office is working to determine how John MacKenzie, 70, died in the Fishkill Correctional Facility Thursday morning. According to Journal archives, MacKenzie was convicted in the shooting death of Matthew Giglio, a Nassau County police officer who was responding to a reported burglary in West Hempstead on Oct. 7, 1975. He was convicted of second-degree murder, second-degree manslaughter, grand larceny, burglary, and criminal possession of a weapon, according to the DOCCS. Read More. |
