NEWPORT, Vt. —Two inmates took a corrections officer hostage Thursday afternoon at the Northern State Correctional Facility in Newport. A Department of Corrections spokesperson said the situation began about 12:45 p.m. Officials said the prison staff immediately activated its Special Response Team, which responded to the incident.
