An 18-year-old inmate who only received medical treatment for a lump in her neck after a judge intervened was back in court last Thursday and is doing well, according to her attorneys. Elizabeth Lingerfelt, who was arrested on an armed robbery charge, found a lump in her neck shortly before she was incarcerated. Lingerfelt's mother died from cancer after doctors discovered growths on the back of her neck, according to the teen's attorney. Judge David Young had ordered corrections officials to allow Lingerfelt to have a CAT scan, that her doctor had recommended before her arrest in December, but nearly two months later, it had not happened. Young intervened, saying the county had been "callous," and calling the treatment of Lingerfelt "outrageous." Last month he ordered Lingerfelt released on house arrest so she could get a CAT scan on her own. Last Thursday Lingerfelt's attorneys told the judge that the tumor was non-cancerous. They said she is doing well in school and has been behaving. Lingerfelt is still on house arrest. She will stand trial on April 24. |
