| Officials: Prison guard hit by inmate convicted of killing cop |

The head of Delaware's correctional officers union says the ranks of prison guards are so thin, the National Guard could be needed next summer to fill staffing gaps and maintain order. "Sometime between January and July, the wheels are going to come off," said Geoff Kopp, president of the Correctional Officers Association of Delaware. "There's a good chance we'll require the National Guard's assistance to maintain safety and security in the facilities."
