| Newport Inmates' Unusual Hostage Weapon Revealed |

We now know more details behind last week's hostage situation at the Northern State Correctional Facility in Newport. Last Thursday’s incident started with a routine inmate cell inspection by a corrections officer Malcom Brown. "He observed what he believed to be some contraband and he started to investigate that a bit further and that's when the inmates shut him into the cell with him," says DOC Director of Facility Operations, Mike Touchette.
