| At rusting Wayne County jail site, winter is coming -- again |

Three winters. That was supposed to be the point of no return for Wayne County’s infamous failed jail. Now, with another summer construction season slipping into the rearview mirror and winter No. 4 approaching, the viability of the unfinished eyesore on the edge of Detroit’s downtown is again up for debate, especially as the site has been pitched in a splashy presentation by billionaire businessmen Dan Gilbert and Tom Gores as a potential home for a Major League Soccer team. Wayne County Deputy County Executive Richard Kaufman cited the three-winter milestone when he met with the Free Press in December to discuss plans to restart construction on the project that has already cost $150 million.
