Rape suspect in jail after brief standoff with police

A 42-year-old man is in the Montgomery County Jail on a potential rape charge after he surrendered to Dayton police during a brief standoff in the 700 block of Troy Street.

Brian Harting was booked into the jail at 11:50 p.m.

According to the Dayton police report, the suspect sexually assaulted a 17-year-old female.

The suspect is due to appear in Dayton Municipal Court this afternoon.

Further details about the allegations have not been released.

UPDATE @ 5:40 p.m. (Aug. 28) A man on Troy Street surrendered to police this evening after a brief standoff following a report of a sex offense involving a 17-year-old victim.

Dayton police responded to the house in the 700 block of Troy Street shortly after 4 p.m. By 5:35 p.m., the suspect was in custody and police searched the house, according to the Montgomery County Regional Dispatch Center.

The incident led police to block Troy Street in that area. The incident did not require a tactics team, and no injuries were reported involving the suspect’s apprehension.
