Working to improve corrections

I want to recognize the dedicated employees at the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services for their service to the state. I have heard from many employees and I realize the difficult circumstances that they are working under, with high vacancy rates, loss of experienced workers, many overtime hours and the safety issues that they experience on a daily basis.

I would like to commend Governor Pete Ricketts for initiating action to immediately begin labor negotiations for staff at the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services. The Governor’s support for a specific bargaining agreement for corrections staff is a very important factor in the possibility of meaningful salary adjustments. He has recognized the dire need to reward and retain good staff, increase base salaries, and provide flexible schedules.
