Troopers say a 30-year-old DOC inmate in Kenai has died, and they’re investigating the cause

An inmate at Wildwood Correctional Center on the Kenai Peninsula has died, according to Alaska State Troopers.

On Tuesday at 12:21 p.m., the emergency dispatch center in Soldotna received a request for assistance from the prison, troopers said.

Troopers and medics in Nikiski responded. About a half-hour after the call, the medics pronounced 30-year-old Walter Shade dead. Shade was from Soldotna, troopers said.

The troopers did not confirm it in a dispatch, but online an inmate tracker says Shade had been in the custody of the Alaska Department of Corrections.
