NEWPORT, Vt. - The prison in Newport went into lockdown Tuesday. Officials with the Vt. Department of Corrections tell WCAX News it was part of a planned, prisonwide shakedown. Movement was restricted inside the Northern State Correctional Facility as guard checked cells for contraband and security breaches. DOC says the lockdown lasted about eight hours.
