| Inmates flooding courts with frivolous lawsuits |

Dozens of Bay State inmates have filed hundreds of pleadings as part of frivolous lawsuits that are clogging the courts and turning judges into prisoner “pen pals” — according to one jurist and a top lawyer who are both clamoring for changes in what they call a “broken” system. Superior Court Justice Dennis Curran found that convicted murderer Emory Snell had filed 91 separate actions in state and federal courts and 195 appeals for a total of 285 cases. In a separate suit brought by inmate Alex Reis against a nonprofit that assists prisons, Curran found that the inmate filed 720 pleadings, requiring 244 decisions by judges. Read More. |
