| Rock Hill church hosts inmates' glimpes inside Stateville Correctional Center |

CARBONDALE — Four former inmates from Illinois prisons shared a glimpse from a day in the life at Stateville Correctional Center, everything from a conversation between a new inmate and a lifer to discussions about such living conditions and food and access to educational services. The reading was "A Day at Stateville," written by men who are serving natural life sentences, and read by former inmates, including one reader who said he was imprisoned at the maximum-security prison in 1969. This is the 127th reading of the script, which is shared in the hopes of having communities understand what those who are incarcerated face, one of the sponsors and a presenter from Sunday said. About 100 people attended the reading at Rock Hill Missionary Baptist Church. The church's pastor, the Rev. Sidney Logwood, and James Chapman, a retired lawyer, both head the Center for Empowerment and Justice, which hosted the reading. Read More. |
