MIAMI (AP) — Officials say Florida's prison system has resumed normal operations following five recent inmate uprisings at facilities across the state. Prison spokeswoman Michelle Glady says there were no injuries Monday at Columbia Correctional when about 40 inmates engaged in civil disobedience by refusing officers' orders and taking control of at least one dorm. She says the incident was quickly brought under control. The Miami Herald reports the prison remained on lockdown Tuesday. Since Sept. 8, inmates have caused disturbances at four other prisons. The newspaper reports the most serious incident occurred at Holmes Correctional when 400 inmates destroyed several dorms. Read More. |
