U.S. Secretary of Education to visit Limestone Correctional Facility

LIMESTONE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

As part of this year’s back-to-school bus tour, U.S. Secretary of Education John B. King Jr. will visit Calhoun Community College’s postsecondary education programming at Limestone Correctional Facility in Harvest on Wednesday to highlight the college’s selection as a Second Chance Pell Site.

Broderick Johnson, Assistant to the President, Cabinet Secretary, and Chair of the My Brother’s Keeper Task Force, will join King during his visit to the correctional facility.

The My Brother's Keeper Initiative, launched by President Obama in February of 2014, brings together partners from the federal government, state and local government and the private sector to address persistent opportunity gaps facing boys and young men of color and ensure all youth can reach their full potential.

It is one of several Administration initiatives designed to expand opportunity for underserved young people and disrupt the school-to-prison pipeline.
