An inmate managed to get away from police outside an Elyria, Ohio, courtroom Monday, but he wasn't on the loose for long. Nineteen-year-old Daniel Leonard of Elyria was back in custody about 14 minutes later-after he swam across a river and barricaded himself inside a home. Police say Leonard shed his handcuffs and ran from two officers as he was being moved from a police van to the rear door of Elyria Municipal Court Monday afternoon. Elyria police plan to review procedures for transporting inmates. Leonard was scheduled to appear in court on charges of armed robbery, burglary and theft. |
