| Prison ministry volunteers recognized for promoting rehabilitation |

CANON CITY — A majority of people think that one local couple is wasting their time visiting prisoners here, but the volunteers see lives turning around. “People have such a horrible view of prisons, but it is not the end of the road for the inmates. It can be the best thing that can happen — we have seen multitudes of young men turn their lives around,” said Dick Gott, who along with his wife of 60 years, Carol, received the President’s Lifetime Achievement Volunteer Service Award. The couple launched In His Name Prison Ministry, which encompasses a group of 25 volunteers who give Bible Study classes and ministry seminars in state and federal prisons in Fremont County. They have amassed 8,643 hours of volunteer time since starting their work with Chuck Colson’s Prison Fellowship ministry in 1983 at the Buena Vista prison. Read More. |
