| Neighborhood meeting in Chesney Park mulls residential reentry facility |

One of the main concerns at a neighborhood information meeting held Monday was the potential proximity of a residential reentry facility to the Kansas Expocentre. Attendee Josh Smith listed numerous family and kid-friendly events held throughout the year at the Kansas Expocentre. Terry Williams, executive director of Re-Entry Development, LLC, explained that the facility wouldn’t house sex offenders or those released for crimes against children or heinous crimes. The faith-based, for-profit company is seeking a conditional use permit for the halfway house, which would serve federal offenders who are from Kansas. We would ensure security through random drug testing, requiring residents to check in and out and video monitoring, Williams said. A condition of their release is being employed.
