| Monroe County inmate population drops as officials tackle mental illness issue |

The inmate population at the Monroe County Correctional Facility has steadily dropped over the last several years, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections. In 2012, there were more than 400 inmates; the total now is in the mid-300s. The decrease is not because of a lack of crime, said Monroe County President Judge Margherita Patti-Worthington.
