After spending 50 days jailed as a victim in a sexual misconduct case involving a former prison guard, Brandy Lee Buckmaster was freed Thursday.

Washington County jurors found the ex-corrections officer, Brian Balzer, 42, guilty of one count of first-degree custodial sexual misconduct. His sentencing was set for Nov. 28.

Balzer, who has remained free since his December arrest, was allowed to remain out of custody before the sentencing hearing. He could face prison time for having sex with Buckmaster when he was a guard and she was an inmate at the state women's prison in Wilsonville. He has since left the job and Buckmaster was no longer in prison when the investigation began.

Buckmaster, 41, had been jailed as a material witness in the case – sitting in the Washington County Jail since August. Circuit Judge Beth Roberts ordered Buckmaster's release after her testimony and the conclusion of the state's case. She left the jail shortly before noon.
