CANON CITY -

The Cell House opened its doors last Friday. This new shop has everything from furniture, to clothing and food all with one thing in common. Each item was produced by prison inmates through Colorado Correctional Industry. It's a program that gives inmates the chance to learn a trade.

"It's a voluntary program for people who are incarcerated," explained store owner Dan Brown. "They get in there and they learn a trade. Some of them may have come in with a trade already and knew how to do some of this."

Prison inmates from all over the state are working behind the scenes, through Colorado Correctional Industries, a division of the Colorado Department of Corrections.

"The leather comes from Buena Vista. I think the line of clothing, aprons and shirts come from Limon, the furniture comes from here," said Brown. "Wherever they produce something in the prison system we could get it here."
