| ADOC: 1 killed in crash following chase by prison officials over contraband package |

ATMORE, Ala. (WIAT) — One person was killed in a crash that happened after correctional officials pursued a vehicle after an occupant reportedly tossed a package of contraband over the fence and fled the property. According to Bob Horton with the Department of Corrections, officials first saw a suspicious vehicle south of the prison’s barrier fence with two unknown people inside. The vehicle reportedly fled the property after a man threw a package over the fence. Investigators from the DOC chased the vehicle, a 1999 Toyota Avalon, along Alabama 21 onto I-65 S. The suspects exited the interstate and were hit by a second vehicle on the off ramp at the intersection of Highway 59. The Avalon collided by a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The male passenger in the Avalon died at the scene. He is identified as 36-year-old Clint travis Hunley of Foley. Read More. |
