Hundreds of residents turned out Saturday night to honor retiring Sheriff Roger Garrison, who is leaving office Dec. 31 after 24 years on the job.

Garrison was first elected in 1992 and, at the age of 31, was the youngest sheriff in the state. Under his leadership, the agency became nationally accredited and recognized as one of the top sheriff’s offices in the nation.
