| Attempted escape from state penitentiary easily thwarted |

An attempted escape from the Nebraska State Penitentiary ended quickly this weekend without a breach of security. The Department of Correctional Services reports an inmate attempted to scale an internal fence at the maximum security prison in Lincoln Saturday night. As the inmate began climbing the fence, a tower officer fired a warning shot. Prison guards responded and used chemical agents to get the inmate down from the fence. “Penitentiary staff members did an excellent job responding to the attempt,” State Corrections Director Scott Frakes said in a written statement released by the department. “The inmate did not breach the inner perimeter and at no time was the public at risk.” Read More. |
