| IDOC officers call for increased safety at Logan Correctional |

Two shifts of Illinois Department of Corrections employees held a demonstration outside of the Logan Correctional Center Monday, in Lincoln, to call for improved employee safety measures at the prison. FSCME local 2073 representatives held picket signs at the entrance of the prison and shared stories of violent inmate assaults against prison employees. A banner covered in red handprints, held up by 12 union members, read, “Our blood is on your hands.” Shaun Dawson, AFSCME local 2073 president for Logan Correctional Center, said that an average of 24 assaults on employees take place there each month and that some have resulted in employee hospitalization and longterm injuries.
