| Northern Correctional Facility inmate charged with murder |

An inmate at the Northern Correctional Facility told police that he tricked his cellmate into thinking he was going to pop his back, but instead put the man in a choke hold and allegedly killed him, according to a criminal complaint filed in Marshall County Magistrate Court. Jonathan M. Jordan, 32, is charged with first-degree murder, according to a news release from the West Virginia State Police. He is accused of killing David A. Simpkins, 37, his cellmate at the Moundsville correctional facility, on Oct. 9. The release states that the death “initially appeared to be a suicide.” When Trooper D. M. Matthews was at the jail helping to investigate the incident, he was advised that another inmate had information about Simpkins’ death.
