TOWN OF DICKINSON (WBNG) A $5.8 million expansion project at the Broome County Jail is now complete. Construction started in February 2016 on a brand new medical unit and dormitory to help house more inmates. "It offers each inmate a separate cell and the nursing staffs are 24 hours a day, and a correction officer is assisting at the same area," David Harder, Broome County Sheriff (R), said. Sheriff Harder said the expansion was needed because the jail was over-crowded and costing the county a significant amount of money. "We were losing money because we had no room, we're full," Harder says. "We had to board our inmates out, but with the expansion and changes, we'll be able to bring our inmates back." Read More. |
