A former Dona Ana County (N.M.) inmate filed a lawsuit after he says he was beaten by other inmates, and officers did nothing to stop it. Twenty-eight year old Donald Hynes was put in the Dona Ana County Detention center for allegedly beating and stabbing a man at a Las Cruces hair salon, back in January of 2003. Later that year, Hynes claims several gang members beat him in the detention center. He says officers not only knew, but did not allow him to go to the hospital for treatment for four days. As a result, he claims to suffer from migraine headaches, blackouts, and seizures. Hynes now seeks $1.45 million in damages. |
