200 new N.J. corrections officers sworn in

TRENTON — Two hundred new state corrections officers from 19 New Jersey counties were sworn in Thursday during a ceremony at Patriots Theater at the War Memorial in Trenton. New Jersey Department of Corrections Class 238 Graduation photosMichael Mancuso | For NJ.com

Fifty of the new officers are from Cumberland County, home to three Department of Corrections (DOC) prisons. And 29 officers are from Essex County.

DOC Commissioner Gary M. Lanigan led the officers in taking their oath, and greeted each after they received their certificates.

The new officers, who have completed their academy training, include 23 who have served in the military and 59 that have college degrees.
