| UPDATE: 20 inmates at Carlin to be sent to higher security prisons |

ELKO – Two inmates were taken to the hospital after a fight at the Carlin prison camp escalated into a melee Sunday night. The fight started around 9:15 p.m. “Staff deployed chemical agents to quell the disturbance, which had grown to an estimated 40 inmates, but the fight continued,” stated the Nevada Department of Corrections. “Staff called for assistance. Nevada Highway Patrol, Carlin Police Department and Elko County Sheriff Office SWAT responded to the scene and the fight ended quickly.” Elko County Sheriff Jim Pitts said said the inmates were armed with weapons fashioned from broom handles and towel racks, and went after guards but no guards were injured.
