An inmate at the Jefferson County (N.Y.) Jail was in the hospital last week after ingesting some kind of dangerous substance. According to a press release from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department, the 32-year-old inmate, being held on drug and larceny charges, was found lying on the floor of his cell by another inmate at approximately 2:50 PM. Corrections officers and a dispatcher from the 911 center performed rescue breathing until an ambulance and firefighters arrived. The inmate was transported to Samaritan Medical Center where it was determined that he had ingested an unknown substance that led to his illness. He is currently under guard at the hospital and is expected to return to the jail later today. The Sheriff's Department is investigating what the substance was and how it was brought into the jail. |
