| Two inmates stabbed to death in Mexican border prison |

Police yesterday said two inmates were stabbed to death at a state prison in Nuevo Laredo, a Mexican border city, just as authorities began to search the prison for weapons following a riot. Inmates Jorge Castaneda, 29, and Sergio Montelongo, 26, were stabbed several times inside the prison, which is across the border from Laredo, Texas. The victims had been arrested for the killing of a former Nuevo Laredo police officer last month and had been sent to the prison last week. Soldiers, federal and state police were sent to the prison to quell a riot that left an inmate and a prison officer injured. The killings came less than a week after an inmate was killed and four others hurt in a shootout at the same prison. |
