| Prisons chief: DOC 'getting a handle' on staffing shortages |

The Department of Corrections is taking steps to increase its visibility as the department addresses a wide swath of challenges and limited resources. “So, Lincoln Hills-Copper Lakes,” DOC Secretary Jon Litscher said matter-of-factly Monday to area residents and DOC staff at the Portage Public Library. “I wouldn’t be here in front of all of you today, in all honesty, if probably it weren’t for the issues surrounding Lincoln Hills-Copper Lakes.” Litscher was appointed to the position by Gov. Scott Walker in February following the resignation of Secretary Ed Wall amid a federal investigation into allegations of physical and sexual abuse at the juvenile detention center in Lincoln County, north of Wausau.
