| Group recommends ways to reduce Pa.'s prison population |

Pennsylvania's Justice Reinvestment Initiative working group passed a new set of criminal justice policy recommendations Wednesday that, if implemented successfully, could drive the state prison population down by another 1,000 inmates and save $108 million by 2022. Half of those savings would be repurposed as new spending for expanded probation services that - if maintained - should help to reduce the rate of repeat offenders returning to jail long-term.
