Two inmates have been stabbed in gang-related violence between black and white inmates at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary. Both inmates were treated in the prison infirmary after the fights, one on Thursday and the other on Friday. "We're investigating to see what caused the problem," Deputy Warden Kameron Harvanek said Monday. The inmate wounded Thursday was stabbed about six times. The next day another inmate was stabbed eight times in a fight in the prison yard involving about a half-dozen prisoners. Two other inmates received treatment for superficial injuries in the Friday fight, Harvanek said. The inmates involved were not identified. After Thursday's incident, prison officials found a homemade knife, and two others were found after Friday's brawl. Both incidents involved inmates from the "F" cellhouse at the maximum-security penitentiary. The fights between black and white prisoners at the penitentiary came after a similar brawl at the Cimarron Correctional Facility in Cushing on March 22. One inmate was stabbed to death in that gang fight, which involved as many as 60 prisoners. |
