| Inmate who testified in mental health care trial found dead of apparent suicide |

BULLOCK CO., AL (WSFA) - The Alabama Department of Corrections says an inmate who was in state custody committed suicide on Dec. 15. According to an ADOC release, 24-year-old Jamie Wallace died of an apparent suicide at the Bullock County Correctional Facility in Union Springs. A correctional officer found Wallace hanging unresponsive from a piece of cloth in his cell around 10:33 p.m. Thursday. A nurse administered CPR but was unsuccessful in resuscitating Wallace. Wallace was the first inmate to testify in the current trial over mental health care of Alabama inmates. During the trial, Wallace testified that an officer asked him if he wanted to kill himself and provided him with a razor. The state's attorney challenged whether that story was truthful. Wallace was serving a 25-year sentence on a 2013 murder conviction in Jefferson County. Read More. |
