Chandler, Ariz., police are looking for a convicted sex offender who they say walked away from a work furlough program and sexually assaulted a 16-year-old while on the lam. Police believe Mark Andrew Murray, 38, sexually attacked a female Carl's Jr. employee March 8 after forcing her into the men's bathroom at the restaurant, 1972 N. Alma School Road. The girl's description of her attacker led detectives to Murray, who had fled from incarceration at a Maricopa County jail facility while on a 12-hour release for employment some time earlier. Neither Maricopa County Sheriff's Office officials nor Chandler police could confirm the date of Murray's getaway or the jail where he was assigned. Court records show Murray was sentenced to six months in jail for failing to register as a sex offender. He was previously convicted of sexual assault in Yuma County Superior Court. Murray is 5 feet 10, medium build with hazel eyes and short, brown hair. He has a bald spot, a scar on his forehead and wears a goatee. Murray also is considered to be dangerous. |
