Authorities are seeking an escaped Habersham County inmate who fled while being treated at the hospital. Lt. Matt Wurtz, public information officer for the Habersham County Sheriff's Office, identified the escapee as Jody Montgomery Smallwood, 45, of Tennessee. Smallwood was initially arrested Dec. 26, 2016, on various charges, including burglary and drug possession, among others. Wurtz confirmed the inmate escaped Tuesday night from authorities' custody while at Habersham Medical Center, Demorest.
