HUNLOCK TWP. — State Sen. John Yudichak challenged a roomful of correctional officers Monday night to fight to keep their prison open and their jobs safe. State Rep. Gerald Mullery instructed them to make their voices heard by contacting the office of Gov. Tom Wolf, whose administration has targeted State Correctional Institution at Retreat in Newport Township for possible closure. At a fire hall three miles from SCI-Retreat, about 200 concerned prison workers and family members assembled Monday night to hear lawmakers and union officials talk about the state’s plans, which were unveiled without warning Friday.
