San Francisco plans to rely on social services and housing to reduce the population of those incarcerated after The City rejected an $80 million state grant to build a new jail. A city working group has met monthly between March and October 2016 to decide how to close down County Jail Nos. 3 and 4 at the Hall of Justice as the building, which also houses the District Attorney’s Office and San Francisco Superior Court rooms, is seismically unsafe. The City had proposed building a new jail next door, but criminal justice reformers blasted the plan, which was defeated in December 2015 by the Board of Supervisors. Read More. |
