| Demolition of Detroit House of Corrections facility begins |

PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- The demolition of a prison that has sat vacant on 45 acres of land since the Ronald Reagan administration has begun. The Associated Press reports the demolition of the Detroit House of Corrections, known as DeHoCo, is expected to be complete by the fall. Legislation to fund the demolition of the "the unsightly" prison facility was signed into law in May 2016. According to state officials, the DeHoCo prison facility will come down this year Then State Rep. Kurt Heise, who is now the Plymouth Township Supervisor, pushed for the allocation of $4 million to knock down the derelict facility at Five Mile and Ridge roads. In a statement to A.P., Heise said the community will see "immediate benefits as this eyesore is eliminated." Read More. |
