| Officer busted for 'inmate sex' |

A federal prison officer was busted last week for allegedly having sex with a female inmate he was supposed to supervise inside the kitchen area of the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York. Nicholas Defonte, 47, of Staten Island, was on duty when the feds arrested him at the MCC at 8:30 a.m. The steamy encounters occurred between July and December of 2001, according to the sex-abuse complaint filed by Manhattan U.S. Attorney David Kelley. Defonte is a 10-year veteran who is married and has kids. Department of Justice probers interviewed the unnamed victim and another prisoner who acted as lookout for the illicit trysts, the feds say. Authorities said they also talked to a third inmate who walked into the kitchen freezer and saw Defonte and the woman kissing and groping. According to the complaint, the inmate once performed oral sex on Defonte and he performed sexual acts on her under a table. It is a misdemeanor for a corrections officer to have sex with an inmate. Defonte was released on his own recognizance. Defonte's lawyer, Joel Dranove, said, "We're looking forward to our day in court. He wants to clear his name and reputation." |
