New Hampshire's prison system is cracking down on drug use by focusing on visiting rooms. Drug overdoses at the prison in Concord earlier this month led to officials shutting down the visiting room completely for a few days. Corrections officials have now implemented new rules governing how inmates and visitors can interact. The goal is to limit the exchange of contraband. "Sometimes these things happen in the blink of an eye, and it's not as easy to catch right away," Department of Corrections spokesman Jeff Lyons said. The new rules are effective immediately. "We're no longer going to allow inmates and their visitors to kiss each other on the mouth at the beginning and the ending of the visit," Lyons said. "We have found over the years that's been one method to transfer drugs into the facility. People would swallow it and wait to have a bowel movement and come out later." Read More. |
