The second phase of a major inmate transfer from one of Maryland's oldest prisons is officially underway. State prison administration officials met with correctional officer union reps on Thursday to discuss the move of 300 inmates from the Maryland Correctional Institution, just a few miles from downtown Hagerstown. Forty-five correctional officers are also joining the inmates in the transfer. "We seek their input in this process because after all, they are the ones in the front lines dealing every day with the inmate population," said Gary W. McLhinney from the Office of Professional Standards in the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. Read More. |
