Schuylkill County Prison Board searches for options |

As the Schuylkill County prison board searches for additional housing options, 10 more inmates were transported Wednesday morning to the Centre County Correctional Facility, Bellefonte. There were 55 inmates being housed at other facilities Wednesday: Berks County Prison, Leesport, nine; Centre County Correctional Facility, 22; Columbia County Correctional Facility, Bloomsburg, 13; George W. Hill Correctional Facility, Thorton, three; and Snyder County Prison, Selinsgrove, eight. It cost $86,576.34 to house inmates at other facilities in January, according to Warden Gene Berdanier’s monthly report. Meanwhile, the county prison had 231 inmates on Wednesday. The average population for January was 221, peaking at 236. After a three-month restriction on housing newly sentenced inmates last year, the county’s current agreement with state Department of Corrections does not allow the prison to exceed its approved capacity of 277.
