SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - UPDATE: Authorities say a state prison inmate who was placed on escape status after failing to return from work release is back in custody. 47-year-old inmate Salathiel Pointer was supposed to return to the Sioux Falls Community Work Center on the grounds of the South Dakota State Penitentiary late Tuesday afternoon. Authorities enacted emergency procedures when they learned of the incident. Friday morning, the Department of Corrections sent a press release indicated Pointer was back in custody.
